Celebrating Captain Belinda Bennett this International Women’s Day

On this International Women’s Day, All Aboard Ship Ahoy proudly celebrates the remarkable achievements of Captain Belinda Bennett, a true trailblazer in the cruising industry!

As the first woman to command a Windstar Cruises ship and the first Black captain in the commercial cruise industry, Captain Bennett’s journey epitomises resilience, determination, and barrier-breaking.

Originating from the South Atlantic’s secluded St. Helena Island, her affinity for the sea ignited in her youth. Commencing her maritime odyssey as a deck cadet at 17, she swiftly ascended to the rank of Third Officer, showcasing excellence at every turn. Transitioning through roles including Chief Officer on a private yacht, she left an indelible mark on esteemed companies like the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company before joining Windstar Cruises.

In 2016, Captain Bennett etched her name in history by attaining the prestigious rank of Captain, assuming paramount authority and responsibility for her vessel and its crew. Her outstanding contributions garnered further acclaim in 2018 with the UK’s Merchant Navy Medal for ‘Meritorious Service’, spotlighting her unwavering dedication to advancing the maritime industry.

Captain Belinda Bennett’s journey serves as a beacon of perseverance and resolve, inspiring us all to shatter barriers, chase our aspirations, and navigate our paths to triumph on this International Women’s Day!
