Big Five Safari
Big Five Safari Tour Overview
⦿ Date: Monday, 12th January 2026 | Location: Mombasa, Kenya
⦿ Embark on a thrilling adventure into the wild heart of Kenya with a full-day excursion to Tsavo East National Park, the country’s largest and oldest game reserve. Located about 2 hours and 30 minutes from the port, Tsavo forms part of a vast wilderness that, together with its sister park, Tsavo West, covers nearly 22,000 km², making it one of the largest protected areas in the world.
⦿ Separated by the Mombasa–Nairobi railway, Tsavo East is famed for its sweeping savannahs, the Galana River, the dramatic Lugard Falls, and the Yatta Plateau – one of the longest lava flows on earth. Often described as the “Theatre of Wildlife,” this park is home to an extraordinary diversity of animals, including the legendary ‘red elephants’ that dust themselves in the region’s ochre soil. You’ll also have the chance to spot Africa’s iconic Big Five – lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros, and elephant – as well as giraffes, zebras, and countless bird species.
⦿ During the day, lunch will be served within the park, offering a chance to relax while still surrounded by the beauty of the bush.
⦿ Optional add-on:
⦿ Following your safari, you can enrich your experience with a visit to a traditional Maasai village, where you’ll gain insight into the customs, rituals, and daily life of one of Africa’s most renowned tribes. Meet the community, see their distinctive attire, and learn how the Maasai have preserved their heritage for centuries.
⦿ This combined tour offers a perfect balance of wildlife encounters and cultural immersion, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Kenya’s landscapes, animals, and people.
⦿ NB: Cruisers opting to visit the traditional Maasai village should be aware that this experience may overlap with the once-per-cruise AzAmazing Evening show, Sound, Light & Mombasa After Dark, that is scheduled to take place on that evening.
⦿ Important Note on Wildlife Sightings:
⦿ While Tsavo East is home to an abundance of wildlife, including the iconic Big Five, animal sightings can never be guaranteed. These are wild creatures living in their natural environment, and their movements depend on factors such as weather, time of day, and food sources. Your experienced guide will, however, do their utmost to provide you with the best opportunities to spot as many species as possible.
⦿ Your tour includes:
