Mars on Earth

Mars On Earth Tour Overview

⦿ Date: Tuesday, 6th January 2026 | Location: Antsiranana, Madagascar

⦿ Step into one of Madagascar’s most extraordinary landscapes with a visit to the Red Tsingy Reserve (Tsingy Rouge), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the northern region’s most remarkable natural wonders.

⦿ The Red Tsingy is formed from red laterite mixed with ancient sand deposits. Over centuries, heavy rainfall, wind and the softness of the soil have carved striking ravines and eroded the clay, revealing tall, delicate columns of sand tinged with red. The result is a surreal landscape of towers and pinnacles, often described as resembling a forest of crimson chimneys.

⦿ Travelling by jeep, you’ll arrive at the reserve and enjoy a guided walk through the national park to see the formations up close. The walk is gentle and relaxed, taking around 45–60 minutes along marked pathways, allowing plenty of time to admire the geological artistry and capture stunning photographs. From every angle, the Red Tsingy offers a mesmerising blend of colours and textures, unlike anywhere else on Earth.

⦿ Afterwards, you’ll stop for lunch at a popular local restaurant near the park, where you can sample authentic Malagasy cuisine and enjoy a taste of regional hospitality.

⦿ On the return journey, the adventure continues with a stop at French Mountain, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape dotted with baobabs and the striking Sugar Loaf Island in the distance – a perfect way to end a day of discovery.

⦿ This full-day experience showcases the natural marvels and geological heritage of Madagascar, with the Red Tsingy often described as a glimpse of “Mars on Earth”
