“I Name This Ship …” : Celebrating International Women’s Day!

This International Women’s Day, All Aboard Ship Ahoy is going to share with you some of our favourite cruise ship Godmothers! These notable female figures were called upon by cruise lines to partake in the nautical tradition of christening their newest ship, often before its first sailing. This custom of breaking a sacrificial bottle of champagne over the bow of the ship is an exciting ceremonial event that is said to have been observed as a public celebration for many centuries and has been long believed to bring the ship and its crew good fortune.
Without further ado, here are nine of our favourite Godmothers in no particular order (you may be surprised by number 3).
1. Godmother: Jennifer Hudson | Ship: Disney Dream | Year Launched: 2011
2. Godmother: Simone Biles | Ship: Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Beyond | Year: 2022
